Gastric Sleeve Procedure

Gastric Sleeve Procedure
also known as Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy

The Gastric Sleeve Surgery, also known as a Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy, is a Bariatric Surgery in which 75-80% of your stomach is removed.  You are left with a banana-shaped stomach which will restrict your eating.  The part of the stomach that is removed is the section where the hunger hormone Ghrelin is produced.  Doing this will help reduce food intake down to a reasonable level to help them to lose the weight that they want to lose.  This procedure is the most commonly performed in Worldwide; this is thought to be because of the profound changes it brings to your life.

This procedure is Doctor Sergio Quinones's area of expertise and the procedure that he primarily performs.  The process takes as little as 45 minutes to complete and has one of the highest success rates in the industry.  The Gastric Sleeve is traditionally the most common procedure referred to a patient whose BMI (body mass index) is under 45, and you do not have type 1 diabetes.

    ▪    It's less invasive than Gastric Bypass
    ▪    You will lose upwards of 70% of your Body Fat
    ▪    It will vastly reduce hunger pains
    ▪    There is no need for implementation of a medical device into the body such as a Lapband
    ▪    This procedure does not require adjustments or fills
    ▪    Potential for remission or improvement to obesity-related health conditions

Due to removing the Ghrelin producing area of your stomach, you will end up eating less, but you will do so because ultimately you will feel full faster.  This will allow you to succeed with portion control.  The food you eat will pass through your digestive tract in the same way as it did prior to your procedure, and will be fully absorbed in the body.  Absorption of food and nutrients will not change.  The struggle of controlling what you ate before will no longer be a battle for you to lose, smaller meals will SATISFY, and you will finally be in control of the thing you have been dying to be in control of, HUNGER.  You will be able to go longer between meals, and the constant cravings will over time subside.  After you gain that control, you will feel something you have wanted for so long to feel; you will feel free and healthy.

This procedure is performed using laparoscopic surgery, which is a minimally invasive procedure.  It allows for the procedure to be done without the necessity of a large incision.  This type of procedure will result in you having a shorter hospital stay and a much faster recovery.  You will also have small scars as opposed to a large incision and less pain than a more invasive procedure.  During the procedure, a thin vertical sleeve is created from the stomach, which results in a banana-shaped sleeve left.  The procedure takes up to 90 minutes, and you will be under local anesthesia.  Your hospital stay on average will be one to two days and can expect to be returning to your normal activities within a week, with full recovery in 2 weeks.
